Sunday - Hot and Sunny, then rainy and cooler
I woke up this morning quite early. F was getting a little friendly. It was rather nice, but then he got up and I went back to sleep. I went downstairs around 8, and then came back and went to bed again. I slept on and off after that until 11 or so. I really didn’t feel good. The room was 29 degrees when I finally got out of bed…way too hot for me. F came up to see if I wanted something? I told him that I wanted to go to a drugstore and get some cold medicine, as I had said the day before. I did actually mention it, but I don’t think he heard me.
He was so grumpy this morning, that he just moaned and whined. When we got to the drugstore, he didn’t even want to come in with me. I told him that I couldn’t read the labels so I needed his help. He was anything but helpful inside. He kept reading all the labels, instead of asking me about my symptoms. I ended up getting some medicine that I normally avoid because I don’t think it works.
We went back to the house and I don’t know what F did. I went into the kitchen and defrosted a bagel and had that for my lunch then ate it and took some of the cold medicine.
It made me sleepy so even though I had planned to go out, I just went back upstairs, turned on the air conditioner and tried to sleep. Earlier today, F told me that the air conditioner is making me sick. No, what is making me sick is your mother coughing and sneezing all over the house. What is making me feel bad is the oppressive heat in our room and the fact that I can’t run the air conditioner overnight because you whine too much. I know about sick building syndrome…one of the buildings I worked in here in Tsuruoka used to make me sick. My ears hurt constantly because of the air conditioner. It wasn’t this darn cold!
I slept on and off for a few hours. Around 4 I roused myself and suggested to F that we go grocery shopping. He agreed and although I suggested Mina, we ended up going to Izmo, the far-off grocery store. There was a reason though, F needed to get gas for the car and his usual station was closer to that.
I got most of the groceries I need, I hope. I got something for K’s dinner, and their breakfasts as well. I returned to the car and F went to the gas station. I suggested going to the Seria, a hundred-yen shop across from the gas station to buy him a pair of chopsticks. I discovered on Thursday that one of his chopsticks has broken and that we should get him a new one. We went in and he actually found the same pattern ones, so he bought them! I got some buttons and a tengui, or lightweight towel. I think it had a William Morris pattern on it so I had to get it!
We came back to the house and I suggested to F that we order Yakitori for our dinner. He thought it was a good idea. He went upstairs to look at the menu and I put the groceries away. I also gave K her bento.
When I went upstairs, F had translated the whole menu for me…except I didn’t need him to do that. he hadn’t phoned in yet. I picked what I wanted and he did too, and then he phoned…and there was no answer. We were too late. Why didn’t he phone from the car? I dunno.
Since he wouldn’t pick a restaurant that we could go to together, he decided he’d take himself off to a horrible restaurant. He was less than happy when I told him it was closed today. We drove past it twice today, I knew. I suggested a Chinese restaurant close to the park. He was okay with that.
We jumped in the car and drove there and…they were closed. F asked what was next, so I suggested another couple of Chinese restaurants and he picked one. We drove there, and after a big detour where F tried to get us lost, we went in. I had exactly what I wanted, mapo-dofu. It was a set meal. F had a mini-ramen and some fried rice, so he was happy too.
On the way back to the house, F decided that he needed cold medicine too, so we went to another drugstore. He picked some up there and I grabbed some snacks and balance bars.
We came back to the house. Since it was fairly early and there was nothing on my regular TV I decided that I would watch a movie. After surfing through Prime for a while I decided that I would watch The Lobster because it has Colin Farrell in it. It had a bunch of other people in it too and it was a very strange movie! It was strange but interesting too. It had a lot of ideas, which I appreciate! I did some work on the dishcloth that I’m making too, so I’m probably a quarter done. I also had to wind up the yarn as it was tangling badly. That took some time.
F didn’t want to watch the movie with me, but I think he had watched it for a few minutes. He went to bed and fell asleep. He’s been sleeping for quite a few hours. He’s back to work tomorrow and honestly, I’m glad. We have not had a good weekend together. I got another lecture tonight about not having preferences. I asked him tonight which particular seaweed filling he liked better in Onigiri. The store had two options, but I didn’t know which he liked more. I got told that it wouldn’t matter and that it was childish to have preferences. I bluntly told him that it was possibly a cultural difference and it definitely wasn’t childish in my culture to have a preference. He’s getting quite rude lately. I’m not sure what’s going on.
Anyway, it’s late and I have to get going. Until tomorrow….
