Friday - Snowy then rainy and warmer

Last night when I went to bed it was snowing. Even though it was supposed to be dark outside, there was a kind of light outside. My phone kept telling me there was heavy snow warnings and such. Yikes.

I did hear F get up this morning and go out, but I didn’t really wake up. However, he came back into the room a little before 7 am and asked me to come outside and help him. The car was stuck in the middle of our road and he couldn’t move it.

I got dressed as fast as I could, went downstairs and then got my boots and coat on. I went outside and tried to help F. Happily for him, a neighbour was giving him a hand and was digging down to the road in front and behind the car. F wanted me to push the car, but he wasn’t really telling me when so it was a little frustrating. It did take a while, but eventually, F was able to move the car a little bit. He backed the car up and ended up parking back in our yard again! He decided to call his work and say that he wasn’t going in today. He was exhausted. He was probably outside for more than half an hour, shovelling snow and trying to move the car.

Some of the snow, car safely parked in spot.

Down the road, looking at the gomi station!

We came back into the house and basically went back to bed. I read my book on my phone for a few minutes and then tried to go back to sleep. I managed after a bit.

F woke me up around 10:30. He was moaning and groaning in pain. He was having muscle cramps in both legs. He decided that he wanted to go to the doctor’s office about it. He asked me to come too because he thought he might need help getting in and out of the car. I asked him how much water he’d been drinking and he said, as he always does, that he drank a lot. (Not true IMHO) I told him that he was probably dehydrated. I reminded him that he probably had a lot of adrenaline released when he was trying to get the car unstuck and that would also have an effect on him. He still wanted to go to the doctor’s office. A few minutes later the cramps got a little better but he still wanted to go out. I grumpily got up and got dressed. I went out with him again.

F went the other way down the street and this time he didn’t get stuck. The snowplough still hadn’t been down our street, but it had been on the big roads. We drove over to the doctor’s office and F checked in. We sat and waited. I had brought my book with me (Margaret Atwood’s Cat’s Eye) so at least I wasn’t bored! Eventually, F got taken off and saw the doctor. When he came back, I asked him what the doctor said. The doctor said he was dehydrated and gave him some medicine for the leg cramps. I tried not to gloat too much!

While we were waiting for F to get his prescription, we talked about going for lunch. I suggested F’s favourite fish restaurant, and that’s where we went. We were able to get a table and chairs.  We ordered the daily special which was deep fried oysters and sashimi. It was quite nice.

After lunch, we went to a drugstore and bought a few things. Then, we came back to the house. This time, the snowplough had been through and our driveway was blocked. We got out of the car and grabbed our gloves and then our shovels and got to work. F did the major work near the road and I did the work around the house. More snow had fallen off the roof, so the steps were under snow. I got them cleared and then worked on other areas. F had to move the car a couple times as the postal delivery guy needed to get through but we were quite lucky.

F backed up the car finally and we came in the house. I went in the kitchen and turned on the heater for later, then went upstairs and changed my clothes and relaxed. I watched the news and and tried to warm up!

Around 6 pm I went downstairs and got started on dinner. Tonight it was a simple one, just pasta with a bought sauce and some bacon pieces and a salad. It was very nice though. Everything disappeared tonight, no leftovers.

F had bought some cakes for the neighbour who helped him today, so he delivered them, and then came back to the house. I did the dishes and then went upstairs. Again, I relaxed for a while and then changed into my PJs.  F came upstairs and a little later I went downstairs and took a shower. I came back upstairs and after a while watched another episode of The Devil’s Hour on Prime. It was really good.

F is still up, despite the fact that he has to take his mother to Day Service tomorrow morning. I hope that he can do it, and that he doesn’t need to wake me up!

Well, that’s it from me for today. It was not the type of day that I expected at all. I had planned to do laundry and have a quiet time, but instead I had a very much different and cool day.

Come back later if you like and hear all about my day. Until tomorrow….
