Saturday - Snowy and cold
I went to bed a bit late last night. The heater ran out of kerosene around 2:40 so I was motivated to go to bed. When I finally finished, I found out that F was still awake so I could have gone downstairs and refilled the tank. I hadn’t wanted to wake him.
F didn’t really sleep last night, I slept very well.
F got up early to make breakfast for his mother and take her to the Day Service. I got up around 9:30 and went downstairs. I took the kerosene tank with me. F was lovely and he offered to fill it up and bring it back upstairs for me. How could I refuse? I didn’t.
I went back for another snooze, but later F came into the bedroom and asked if I wanted to go for lunch. I thought it was early, but, we were planning to see a movie at 1:15, so it was a good idea to go early. After a few minutes, I suggested that we try the Chinese restaurant on the other side of the park. F was okay with that, so off we went.
We went to the restaurant, got a table and ordered. I had the mapo-dofu teishoku and F had the yakisoba with 5 types of food on it. I was happy with mine, but F wasn’t satisfied with his.
We had about an hour to go before our movie and I asked F what he wanted to do. He didn’t know. I suggested going to Yamaya, so I could buy some tea. He liked that idea. I did worry that we were too far away time-wise, but he said it was okay. We went to that area, but the roads were so bad it took ages. Finally, I suggested we skip the store and just get gas for the car since we were near F’s gas station. That’s what we ended up doing.
We drove over to the movie theatre and the parking lot was crowded. We bought our tickets and then our drinks. We went in to see Robot Dreams. That was a really charming animated movie about a lonely dog who buys himself a robot and the friendship that develops between them. It was set in New York and it was rather sad to see the Twin Towers in the distance.
I suggested coffee after the movie. We tried to go to Starbucks, but the parking lot was completely full. We then tried F’s favourite, Komeda, but when we got there, we realized that we didn’t have enough time for coffee. We ended up just going back to the house. Sigh.
Back at the house, I did a little bit of snow shovelling and then went upstairs and relaxed. I watched some YouTube and did some internet stuff.
F made his mother some dinner and then wanted ideas for us to do something. I suggested a gyudon shop since they are cheaper. He found that one of the shops in Tsuruoka is selling a nabe with chicken in a cheese-onion sauce so we decided to give it a try. We drove over there, F ordered and I found us a table. The food was okay. It was very garlicky and hot temperature-wise. I liked it, but I’m not sure I’d have it again. F didn’t really like it, sad to say.
F wanted to do a little bit of shopping after our meal, so we went to the grocery store. We wandered around looking for stuff for F. I’ll do my usual shop tomorrow.
We came back to the house and went upstairs. I watched YouTube again and then a bit before my TV series I decided I’d try out my brand-new popcorn maker. I went downstairs and gave it a try. I used the old popcorn in the fridge and microwaved it with some olive oil. Some of the popcorn burned quite badly and stained the bowl. Sigh. I threw out quite a bit of the burned popcorn and then took the rest upstairs. I gave F a handful and I ate the rest. It was good. When my show was over, I went downstairs again and made more. This time I skipped the olive oil and gave it slightly less time and it was perfect! Most of the kernels popped and it didn’t burn. Yum.
I’ve had a quiet evening. F was snoozing on the bed, he’s just gone to bed now.
I’m not sure what we’ll get up to tomorrow. I will have to do some grocery shopping…I’m so excited about that. Come back later if you like and hear all about my day. Until tomorrow….
