Sunday - Windy, cloudy and finally rainy
I slept in a little this morning, but got up fairly early. I had some texts that I wanted to answer right away, so after my trip downstairs I went to my computer and wrote to my friend. F came back upstairs and wanted to leave for lunch right away. It was around 10 am! I suggested we wait a bit and F was okay with that. He decided to go out and get his hair cut. I decided to go back to bed for a bit while he did that!
I didn’t really sleep, I just relaxed for a bit. I dragged myself out of bed and got dressed before F came back. When he came back his hair looked okay. I think it was a bit too short in the back, but it’s really fine.
We decided to leave and we drove off to Sakata. We went for lunch first and went to a Yakiniku chain. I had found a discount coupon on Facebook, so that was good. I like the place enough to go there anyway, but every bit helps. We had a lovely meal.
After we left the restaurant, F took us on a tour of Sakata! We were looking for some of the tourist places to take my family next month. It was very busy in some of the places because it was Hanami time. We checked out the place where there are mummies, but didn’t see them today. After a few other places in Sakata, we went to the new shopping area.
I wanted to go to the Kaldi (foreign import store) and the Muji store. They were both very crowded today, but probably better than they were last weekend! At Kaldi I bought my favourite rooibos tea, two boxes of it because I drink it almost every day and I love it. We also got a few other things. I got some elderflower concentrate for drinks, some sweet chilli sauce and F wanted some curry spread for bread! I was basically in the line for 90% of the time I was in the store. It took a while to get through it but it was okay. I had my Kaldi bag from Yamagata with me so I used that!
We went to the Muji store next and had a look around. I bought some decaf coffee drip coffee (the individual type), and F and I picked up a few snacks. Those are the things I like to buy at Muji. They have pretty nice snacks and they aren’t too expensive usually.
We paid for our shopping and then I needed a drink and a washroom break, so we drove to a nearby drugstore. While I was getting out of the car, F started yelling at me about the car door. At first, I thought I had done something so I didn’t understand why he was yelling at me. I got out of the car and went in the store by myself. I took care of both matters, and even asked him if he needed a drink. He said no.
When I got back to the car I was treated to him loudly and forcefully telling me that he had to yell at me about the car door and the wind. No, no you didn’t F. I try my best not to let the car get caught by the wind, but I have to use my left arm to open to the door and between trying to get in and out I do occasionally have to let go of the door you know.
We drove back towards Tsuruoka, but made a stop at the Mikawa Mall again. F wanted to buy a pair of jeans. He tried on a pair but they weren’t great. The material was very thin and they didn’t look that great on him. I told him I didn’t think they’d last very long. He didn’t buy them. We decided to go to a store in Tsuruoka and have a look there.
We drove to the store in Tsuruoka and looked at jeans for F. He ended up getting a pair. They are stretch jeans, a little better quality than the ones from before and the woman in the store hemmed them for him. That was good.
After buying the jeans, we went to the grocery store and I picked up groceries for the next couple of nights. We decided to take them back to the house, since we had a bento for K and she hadn’t eaten in a while.
We went to the house and unpacked the car. I put away the groceries and took stuff upstairs. F gave K her food and even gave her some extra stuff that he had made for her.
We got back in the car and drove over to the Gyomu Supa. I wanted to pick up some staples that I get there. F came in with me which is always a problem because he just isn’t helpful! I got some baby cheese, some pasta salad and some potato salad and some kimchi and some pickles. It was quite expensive so I was a tad surprised. We brought the shopping back to the house as we had some frozen food, and the pasta salads needed to be kept cold.
After we put the shopping away, we went out for our dinner. On the way there, F asked if we could go to a shop for him to see if he could get a cushion for the car. He told me tonight that the car seat is hurting his back. Well, the store he wanted to go to was closed, so we ended up at a hardware place. F went cushion shopping, I went to the hundred yen section and had a snoop. I didn’t buy anything, he got something for his back, but the jury is still out to see if it helps.
Next up was dinner. We went over to China House and had dinner there. I had the mapo-dofu set meal again (I love it!) and F had yakisoba and an order of gyoza. Mine was really nice and I was quite full afterwards. F wanted me to share the gyoza. They were good, but I didn’t really need them!
We came back to the house after our meal and came upstairs to relax. I set F to work putting rice together for dinner tomorrow. I filled up the kerosene tank in our room and checked his mother’s in the living room.
We had a quiet evening in which was a lovely change from the day! F fell asleep on the bed for a while and I watched last night’s Day of the Jackal. This was an interesting episode as it was mostly about the Jackal’s past. I liked it a lot.
It was a good day today, if I can forgive all the lectures I got about the car door. I’m not careless, I promise I’m not. I have on occasion let go of the car door when it got caught in the wind. I get that we don’t want to hit another car and that it isn’t good for the car door to be opened too far by the wind, but what am I supposed to do if the wind comes while I’m getting in or out? I feel like I should ask F to act as a chauffeur and open and close the door for me and hold it for me.
Anyway, this is quite long, but it was a busy day. We haven’t had one of these for ages. Usually F goes back to the house halfway through the afternoon and gives up. It was lovely to be out and about, and to see some new places in the next city.
Come back later if you like and hear all about my Monday. Until tomorrow….
