Thursday - Clear and sunny, then rainy. Repeat.
A pretty good day today. I woke up this morning because my cellphone received an email. Usually I’d be upset, but it was only 15 minutes before my alarm was due to go off, so decided to get up.
I watched a bit of Kramer vs. Kramer and noticed today that it is quite stagy, at least in the beginning. I didn’t watch it all. I took a shower and then discovered that we get the free Fox channel again. The number had changed, and so had the look, but I think it is free for a year? Hope so anyway.
I made my brunch around 12 while I was watching America’s Next Top Model. Oh dear heavens. I could practically feel my IQ slipping away. Not sure there’s much IQ left after 14 years in Japan anyway, but young vapid women madly in love with their reflections just irritate me. There were a few that seemed slightly better, and for the first time there were 2 “plus” sized models in the group, but please don’t let me watch it again! (Plus size to them being about a size 12….PU-LEEZE)
I discovered that American Idol was on later, so I set up the VCR to tape it.
I biked off to work. It was a nice fall day. Sunny but cloudy.
At my school I did a bunch of usual stuff, some last minute cleaning and then my student came. She’s a new student and it was our first class. It seemed to go quite well. After class, I did a lot of paperwork and then I decided to go out to the drugstore.
I changed my pants back to my non-work ones, put on my pink lumberjack shirt and took off on my bike. I hacked around the store, bought a few things and left for my school again. However, as I left the store I noticed it was raining, and raining hard at that. Yuck. Luckily I had brought my raincape, so I put it on and cycled off. I did get a bit wet, mostly on my wrists and knees, but I was fine. Glad I did change my pants before I left the school.
I hung up my wet things to dry and spent the next couple of hours reading newspapers and preparing lessons. My next student came and we also had a good class. We’re discussing how to talk about the future. It’s a little difficult for her.
After class, I finished up rather quickly for me, and then changed. I checked the weather outside and it was fine and clear. I called F and asked if I should bike home. He said he’d pick me up, but I said since it was nice out I’d ride home. I did that, and enjoyed my way home. The night was clear and the road was quiet. I really enjoy the chance to de-school myself on the way home.
About 5 minutes after I got home the thunder started. Yikes! I’d made it just in time.
We went to Grado for dinner tonight and had their special. It was fish and also pork in an omelette. It was a bit odd for me as I’d had an omelette for lunch, also with pork in it…and to be honest, mine was better! Still, overall, it was a nice meal.
We picked up a few groceries at the store. F is going to cook tomorrow night. He wants to have curry. I hope he really is okay with cooking.
At home, we watched American Idol. These were the season 10 tryouts, and they were funny. I didn’t like the new judges much, mostly because they weren’t bitingly funny like Simon. Still, it was an interesting show. Glad I was able to tape it. I’ll have to try and find out when the show is being broadcast regularly.
And that’s my day. At 12, F started watching his UFC garbage. I’m getting rather worried because he’s watching it every night. I really don’t like that kind of thing. He has to get up early in the morning, I don’t.
Okay, well that’s it for me. I’m out of things to say. I’ll talk to you tomorrow night I think. Night!

I watched America's Top Model All Stars today, the latest, even more of a freak show than usual. The contestants weren't even the winners in previous shows, just the viewer favorites, meaning the craziest ones, mostly. They're too old and untalented to have a career in the entertainment or modeling industry, and it's cruel to tease them, calling them stars. Everyone seems to be just going through the motions. Usually America's Top Model is so bad it's sort of good, but not this series. At least, though, it gives opportunities to women from underprivileged backgrounds.
True enough, they did seem to have a few women who weren't the usual waspy girls in the magazines, but I'm really not sure if the chance to be a moving clothes hanger is really such a great opportunity.
Anyway...I s'pose I might watch again if it was on and nothing else was...but I don't plan to stay home to watch it!
