Saturday - Cloudy but warmish
A good day.
Last night my first student had postponed her class so I had a relaxing morning at home with the mister. I showered, he watched TV, I took a mini nap, so did he.
We went out for lunch around12:30. The first place we tried didn’t have parking available, so we went to Jour Faste near the other grocery store. We both had chicken saute and it was really good. It came with soup and salad and dessert so was quite a good deal. I really liked it!
I got F to drop me at my school afterwards as I wanted to do some reading first. I smooshed the snow in my parking space before I went in. I changed and did a lot of reading.
When the time came, so did my student. Hurray! However, she had to leave right away. Sigh. She had a “thing” she had to go to. However, I did see her today and we were able to chat for a few minutes.
I called F around 6 and he picked me up. We drove out to Mikawa to the mall. We bought our tickets for the movie and then did a little mall wandering. Neither of us bought anything, so it was a cheap way to pass the time. We also paid 100 yen for the massage chairs in the mall! You get 5 minutes for 100 yen and it was quite nice. I even timed the machine to check it, but it was 5 minutes almost exactly.
We went to see Life of Pi and it was great. I hadn’t read the book, I may be the only Canadian who hasn’t, but the movie was a treat from beginning to end. The visuals were amazing and I almost wish I’d seen it in 3-D. I really enjoyed it. I was actually quite surprised at how funny it was. I thought it would be a heavy philosophical film, but it wasn’t. And yet it was! F fell asleep in the beginning, but did wake up and enjoyed it. He said his medicine made him sleepy.
After the movie we just came home. F set up the bread maker for 8:40 in the morning. Good for him…I’ll still be sleeping. He was just going to bed when I felt the apartment start to move. I called out, “Earthquake” so he got up and we checked the TV. It was in Hokkaido. Quite a big one there, and apparently was felt all the way to Tokyo. Hope we don’t get aftershocks.
No idea what’s on the agenda tomorrow. We might get haircuts, if we can both go at the same time, or not. There could be another movie or karaoke, or sleeping? Not sure. Come back tomorrow night and find out! Night.

I'm about halfway through the novel 'Life of Pi' and it's amazing! As good as the movie was, the novel is so much better. Worth a read if you can find it. I think the writer is also Canadian-?
Yes, he is! I was surprised at how "Canadian" I thought the movie's humor was...Ang Lee is a brilliant director.
I never wanted to read the book because everyone was reading it. Guess I'll have to make the sacrifice now! LOL. I'll try to find a copy. Thanks for letting me know about the novel!
I've just finished the "Life of Pi" myself:-)
Now, only if you don't mind (otherwise, please remove my post), perhaps you or your blog readers might want to have a look at “Simon and Hiroko,” a dramatic love story located to a large extent in Japan, which has gathered several appreciative reviews and blog interviews.
It certainly touches on the Yakuza and the police:-)
Murakami lovers might like it.

I wish you’d take a stab at it too, as impressions from current residents would be very special for me.
I lived two years in Tokyo and I enjoyed the place very much.
Cheers.
