Sunday - Sunny but a little muggy
I didn’t go to bed until very late last night. It was somewhere around 4 am, but no matter. No plans for today really!
I got up around 11 and got dressed. F stayed in bed a bit longer but had been awake for a long time he said. Around 12, F started making noises about going out to eat so I suggested that he call Arpeggio to see if we could get in. He liked the idea, did call them, and they said it was fine. Last time we went the place was really busy and we couldn’t get in.
We loaded the car with K and the two of us, and off we went. We got to the parking lot and there was lots of space. When we got to the restaurant, there was nobody in it! We got to pick our own table and had a seat. K had curry, I think she has it because it is cheap…F and I had the 10 dishes set. It was really good. It had fish and chawanmushi, a little tempura, some soup, pickles…it was nice.
We left and came back to the house. F felt okay today, so asked if there was a movie playing. I checked the schedule and we had about 45 minutes to get to Mikawa to see Judy. He said we could go, so we bid K goodbye and went off.
At the mall, we bought our tickets and some popcorn and drinks and went to see Judy. The cinema has made a few changes. They suggested seating so that you aren’t sitting near other people. I think they would have exempted us from that, except, we usually don’t! F likes to sit one seat away from me so he doesn’t have to share an armrest. In this area, it is very rare to have a full theatre, at least at the English shows, so it doesn’t bother people. Anyway, they had done away with blankets a few weeks ago, now the concession stand has us pay into a machine too. Usually, the person at the door takes our ticket and takes off the stub, but today we just had to show it and they waved us in. Eliminating touching I guess. It is a bit sad, but understandable.
Judy was a good movie, but not an enjoyable one, if you know what I mean. Renee Zellweger was very good and really did deserve her award, but Judy Garland really did have a screwed up life. The music was good and I think that Zellweger, who sang most of the songs herself, was quite a good singer.
After the movie, we blinked a few times at being back in 2020 in a small Japanese city! We talked a little about Judy Garland and her life.
We decided to get a few groceries for tomorrow and bentos for tonight, so we walked through the mall to the grocery store. I detoured through the wool shop, but didn’t buy any. I did drool a little bit though!
We picked up a few things for tomorrow and tonight and then came back to the car and drove back to Tsuruoka. It was barely 5 pm by the time we were back and I didn’t want dinner yet. Neither did F, he said. We vegged for a bit, but around 6 heard K downstairs. F thought that meant that she was hungry, so we went downstairs and got dinner on the table.
The meal was good. I had a chicken soboro bento, F had tonkatsu and K had a mixture of things. We shared a salad that I’d chosen with sesame dressing and chicken. It was good too. After, F and I did the dishes and then came upstairs.
We had a quiet night in. Both of us took showers, I watched a bit of TV and relaxed.
Tomorrow, F is off work, but for a change of events, I have to work in the afternoon. I’ve bought myself stuff for lunch because a couple of years ago we had a really horrible lunch experience together and I’m not repeating it. (He took me to lunch but went to a place where I didn’t want to eat anything on offer. He ate, was extremely nasty all through lunch to me, and then when he took me back to his house, I discovered that his mother had eaten most of my food that was going to be my lunch. Not a good memory at all. So, I’m feeding myself here. He can do what he likes as long as it isn’t at the same time as me!)
So that’s it. Come back tomorrow night and see how Monday goes. Until tomorrow….
