Sunday - Drizzly and snowy

A lovely weekend!

We left for Yamagata city on Saturday afternoon and made good time on our trip there. We checked into our hotel and then left the hotel room to do a little shopping. We went to the foreign food store in the station, but they didn’t have any Christmas Pudding. Apparently they just haven’t arrived this year yet. I think I have to give up on it. Sigh.

We had our dinner at an Okinawan izakaya. We were quite early so it wasn’t very busy yet. We had an unusual for us dish, a steam shabu-shabu. We put thin slices of pork on top of shredded vegetables and then steamed them.  It was very nice. We had a few other dishes including curly fries and spam wrapped in rice and nori. After our meal, we walked back towards the station. We had a doughnut and a cup of decaf at Mister Donut.

We went back to the hotel via the grocery store for some snacks, half of which we brought back to Tsuruoka with us! We went back to the hotel, dumped our stuff in the room and then went down to the lounge just off the lobby. We sat there for a while, chatting and drinking some of their soft drinks.

We went back up to the room after a bit. F took a shower and I did some crochet.  We both went to bed fairly early that night.

This morning, we got up reasonably early and had some tea or coffee in our room. We’d bought a couple of bread-y things for our breakfast the night before. I had a shower and then we packed up.  We left the hotel around 10 am.

We drove to Tendo and went to the Aeon Shopping mall there.  We were on our way to find a washroom when a guy made a beeline for me and asked me, “Where do you come from?” I wasn’t in the mood so I told him it was none of his business. Which it isn’t!

We had lunch at the food court. We both went to the steak restaurant. We had different types of steak, but it was nice!

We did a little more shopping and then it was time for F to leave. He left and took my shopping to the car with him.

I did a little bit of walking around the mall. I tried on a couple of things in the ladies department, but didn’t buy them after all.  The blouse had long floppy sleeves that would drive me crazy and the dress had a scratchy feel that would mean I wouldn’t ever wear it. Oh well.

I walked around, looked around some more and got a bit tired and thirsty. I decided to go and have a drink and got in the line outside Doutor. Unfortunately, the guy from earlier in the day was in the coffee shop, saw me, and came bounding up and asked me,”Where do you come from?” I just walked away. I think he followed me for a few steps, but I didn’t look. I ended up going to Starbucks instead.

After my break, I did a bit more looking around. I was thinking of getting myself a new purse for Christmas, but the ones I could afford didn’t look that great, and the ones that I couldn’t afford weren’t terrific. One day I shall find a purse that I will love! One day.

I had walked my feet off in the mall so took a break. F called me to say he was in the mall and we met up. He didn’t really want to do any shopping and I hadn’t bought anything either so we discussed going back to Tsuruoka. I suggested that we have an early dinner, since there aren’t a lot of food options on the way back. We went to a place we went ages ago, a restaurant that has a bread buffet.  F had fish, I had chicken and we had a lot of bread too. It was quite nice. I liked my chicken, he didn’t like his fish and the bread was nice. The last time we had it, they brought bread around to the tables too, but they didn’t do it this time for obvious reasons.

We hit the road around 5 pm, did make a pit stop and then when we got back to Tsuruoka went directly to the grocery store to pick up dinner for K and a few things for tomorrow. We came back to the house and unloaded the car. F got his mother up and gave her the food while I unpacked the groceries.

F and I went upstairs and waited for the heater to heat up the room. I thought he was going to go to bed around 9 pm when he asked if I was hungry. We decided that we were a little peckish and decided to go out.

We ended up at Coco’s and had a few things. We shared an order of fries (they have the best fries), an order of a hot caesar salad (good, but no relation to caesar salad except for the dressing) and F had a rice/egg dish and I had carbonara. We both had drink bar. It was nice and relaxed and we didn’t spend all of our time on our phones.

We came back to the house around 11 and I’ve been blogging and checking out Twitter and Facebook while F is trying to sleep but isn’t managing.

Tomorrow I’ll be making something for dinner, but I’m not sure what! F is back at work but hopes to take a day off if he can swing it. He still has a few holidays left this year.

Come back later if you like and hear all about my Monday. Until tomorrow….
