Monday - Snowy

Bah! I woke up this morning to a world of white. It had snowed overnight and was cold to boot. F had left for work, so I went downstairs and then came back up and turned on my heater. I got back under the covers while the room warmed up and watched some of the news broadcasts.

I didn’t hear K much today, and didn’t see her until later in the afternoon. I grabbed my breakfast and ate that upstairs as usual. I watched The Voice (still not sure I “get” it) and then had my lunch a little later. It was such an exciting day!

While I was getting my lunch together I set my heater to come on around 4 pm. I had to put a few dishes away too.

I went back upstairs, ate, and watched the news. It was just a pretty normal boring day.

Around 5 pm I went outside and checked the snow. There wasn’t much in the parking area so I didn’t need to shovel it. I found my boots which K had thoughtfully hidden for me last spring. I brought in the solar lights that we have up to light our boundary and where F parks the car. I put them in the garage for next year, I hope.

I started getting things ready for dinner around 5:45 I think. I made a dish from Okinawa that I had found on the internet before, Ninjin Shirishiri. It’s basically shredded carrots, tuna and egg, but everyone here likes it. I got the carrots ready to go. I also got the chicken for tonight coated in lemon pepper coating and stowed back in the fridge. I wasn’t doing anything too exciting for dinner tonight…oh wait, I also made hot barley tea. F’s been after me for a while to make some in his thermos, so I did. It was fine.

When F arrived I had the carrots in the pan and then I pre-heated the toaster oven for the chicken. He went upstairs to change and then I got the Ninjin dish finished. I decided to put it on the table right away as it was slightly warmer in the living room and then K could see I was busy!

Everything got cooked in fairly good time. We had lemon pepper chicken with the Ninjin Shirishiri, salad, miso soup and for K and F, rice. I thought there’d be some leftovers for tomorrow, but there weren’t. Everything disappeared!

I did the dishes and while I did them, I used my new wireless earphones to listen to the Canadian news and then some of The Guilty Feminist. It didn’t take too long to get everything cleaned up as I had washed the frying pan earlier. Woot.

I said goodnight to K and then went upstairs. I checked the heater and the kerosene tank was empty. I took it downstairs and filled it up, which was a bit of a rigamarole because I had to switch the pump to a different tank after a minute of filling. I also discovered that it was our last tank of kerosene.

Upstairs I had a quiet time for a while, then put on a movie I’d just recorded off the telly. It was America’s Sweethearts with Julia Roberts, Catherine Zeta Jones and John Cusack. I’d seen it before and hadn’t liked it much. I still didn’t, although the parts were all there, they just didn’t jell to make a decent rom-com. There wasn’t a lot of chemistry between the main stars, sad to say.

That’s really about it for my day. Nothing much exciting happened, so that was probably a good thing! Tomorrow I really should start my nengajo and maybe get some more crafting done. I’m trying to make myself another fuzzy ball. I’m on the final row, but it is slow going and the light up here doesn’t help me much!

Come back later if you like and hear all about my day. Until tomorrow….
