Saturday - Hot, muggy and sunny
I woke up this morning, but didn’t get up until it was almost afternoon! It was so hot in our room that I just didn’t want to move. F was relaxing in bed for most of the time too. He did go and make his mother’s breakfast, but neither of us really wanted to get moving.
Finally, after 1 I started to get dressed. F wanted to go for lunch so I offered up either Indian food or the Grand El Sun. He chose the latter. It was fine. We went to the Grand El Sun. I was afraid that it would be too late, but we were okay. They hadn’t had their last order time yet. We both had the same thing, pork with balsamic sauce. It came with soup, salad and appetizers. F had rice and I had bread and there was a drink bar on the weekend. So, we were quite happy.
We stayed in the restaurant for quite a time. When we were ready to go, F asked if I’d go to the glasses shop with him. He’s been needing new glasses for ages. I was fine with that.
We had a brief pitstop at the house and then went out to the glasses shop. F put his name down on the list and we went around the store for a bit. It was quite busy when we first got there. Finally, F’s name was called. He talked to the guy and asked for an eye test. He had to wait. We looked around a bit more and F picked out some frames he liked. I had to get away from the window area as it was so hot and sunny.
F got his test and was turned over to a younger staff member to order his glasses. She looked like she was fairly new as she asked another person to check her work. Finally, F was done. Then, he asked if she could look at my house glasses. Lately, my glasses have been slipping down and I was hoping that they could do something to stop it. I didn’t know if I needed new nose pads or maybe the ear bend needed adjustments.
She took my glasses away and about a minute later returned…with the glasses in two pieces. Oh no! The arm was attached to the actual glass lens and the lens had broken. I’m not sure how it happened exactly. My glasses were quite old, so I wasn’t really upset and I have a couple of other pairs so it isn’t like they are my only pair. Anyway, I got to order another pair of glasses on the glasses shop! They gave me an upper limit for frames price, and then they ordered me the same prescription as before.
The poor clerk looked so sorry I was worried that she might cry. I honestly wasn’t upset, it is just that I do wear those glasses at the house all the time. So, both F and I will get new glasses. Surprising really.
We had been in the glasses place for hours, and it was almost 6 pm. I suggested that we pick up a nice bento for K, drop it off, and then go out to the mall. F liked the idea too, so that’s what we did.
We left K with the bento and then headed out to the mall. We had dinner first. I had bibinba and F had ramen and gyoza. I loved mine, he didn’t like his. He really shouldn’t go to the cheap places!
We did a little shopping and not any buying. Sigh. I wanted to get a new shirt for work but didn’t find anything that would really be appropriate. F and I met up about 8:15 and then walked back to the cinema. Tonight we went to see Godzilla vs Kong. It was supremely silly, but quite a bit of fun. F liked it as much as I did!
After the film was over, I asked if we could go to Don Quihote to do a little shopping. I was thinking of getting just some cereal and a drink for the road back. Of course, we ended up getting more than that. I did get some cereal and a drink, plus F picked up some beer and some oolong tea, tons of ramen and a few other things. We paid and then went back to the car. It must have been midnight when we left because the parking lot was dark and mostly empty!
We drove back to Tsuruoka. We put the groceries away and then came upstairs. F has gone to bed and I’m still up blogging. Sigh. I should have been in bed ages ago, but we don’t have plans for tomorrow anyway.
Well, that’s it for me. It was a crazy day and a good one. It’s still hot here in the room, although not as hot as it was during the daytime. I hope I can sleep.
Come back later if you like and hear all about my Sunday. Until tomorrow….
