Sunday - Hot and Sunny, plus a few showers and clouds

I had an okay sleep last night. I didn’t want to wake up early, but I did. I ended up making a trip downstairs before 6 am. I was able to go back to sleep right afterwards though, so that was good.

I woke up a bit later when my alarm went off. F was still in bed but left soon afterwards to pick up the car. When he got back, he took his mother off to the onsen.

While they were gone, I got dressed quickly, took care of a personal chore and then relaxed for a little while. At some point this morning I must have pulled something in my back because moving around was quite painful. I never did figure out what I did!

F and his mother came back around 1pm. They had had lunch out together. I’m glad. I had suggested that F take her someplace quiet but I’m not sure if he did. They had ramen of course! When they came back, I noticed that K had had her hair cut, but F said he didn’t take her to do it. I wonder if maybe F’s sister took her out yesterday to have her hair cut? I hope they were careful. Even though K is vaccinated, we’re in the midst of a surge here. I’m not even getting my hair cut at the moment.

F and I decided we’d go to the little restaurant up the road, but when we got there, it was already closed. Shoot! I suggested going to The Grand El Sun and F grudgingly agreed. We got there, were seated and F announced that he wouldn’t eat, he’d just order a coffee. Well, that’s okay for him. I found something in our usual budget for myself and suggested that he have the fish lunch. It came in at a thousand yen (like mine) and included the drink bar. The cup of coffee that he wanted to order would cost half of the lunch and he could only have one. He decided to have the fish lunch!

I can’t speak for F, but my lunch was very nice. I had sautéed pork with a balsamic vinegar sauce. It came with a few veg, a little salad, some soup and some nice focaccia with olive oil. We had the drink bar too, so I had some oolong tea and then some hot coffee and some iced coffee. It was nice not to have to pay extra for it.

When we finished lunch, we went to Gyomu Supa where I picked up a few things for the kitchen. We got a few snacks there as well. We went across the street and went to Yamaya as well. I got a few things for myself, but a bit for the house too. I picked up some tea for myself. I know, I have so much already, but I want some easy teabags for the morning.

We came back to the house for a while and had a bit of a relax. It was nice to be able to do that. F wasn’t feeling all that well. I think last night’s yakiniku wasn’t good for him. I did ask him if he really wanted to go and he did, but he just can’t eat the way he did a few years ago.

Around 6:30 he started to think of dinner. I suggested the Kushibiki restaurant and inviting his mother, but F wanted to get her a bento. He went off to the store and got her something for dinner.

F and I drove out to Kushibiki. When we got to the restaurant the lights were on, but they had already closed. Oh no! What to do?  On the way back I suggested either our favourite keiten sushi place or another fish restaurant. F picked the keiten sushi place, but not our usual branch. He chose the one nearest to his house. That was fine of course.  We went to Kintaro Sushi and had a good meal. I was hungrier than F was I think, and had a few different types of sushi. He ordered us chawanmushi and they were lovely. When we finished our meal, F paid and we headed out to the grocery store.

I suggested going to the Mina branch of the grocery store. It was just up the road from the sushi restaurant so we wouldn’t have to drive all over the city.

It was difficult finding something to make for dinner. Of course, I want it to be fairly simple too, especially on Tuesday when I have classes. I decided to do something in my slow cooker for Monday’s dinner and either eggs again or pancakes on Tuesday. Not that pancakes are that great because I end up stuck in the kitchen making them while the other two are in the living room eating! Still, I’m wondering if I could make some and stack them or something so that we could all eat together. I’ll think about it.

We came back to the house and had a quiet evening in. I got a lovely text from a friend telling me that she liked my latest movie column and that she had just (re)watched the film I had suggested and loved it. Yay! I’m never sure if people read my column in my women’s group, so I start to wonder if it is worth bothering. I do a lot of work and research and try to make sure that the films I recommend are as good as I say they are. Knowing that someone read it and agreed was lovely!

F still isn’t feeling that great and my back is hurting when I move in certain ways. F is back to work tomorrow and I have to do final prep and check on my classes. And cook dinner. And clean up afterwards.

I took a shower tonight and then came back upstairs. F wanted the air conditioner on, but he didn’t. It was very confusing. He wanted me to choose to have it on but I told him that I have my fan, so I didn’t really need the AC too. I think he’s sleeping now.

And that’s it for my day. It was pretty good. I got a few things that I needed for the kitchen and the house, and I didn’t fight with my husband over food. That is always a bonus!

Come back later if you like and hear all about my Monday. Until tomorrow….
