Monday - Cloudy, cold and a bit rainy

I woke up a bit when F left, checked how he was and then I went back to sleep. I woke up with my alarm, got up and then watched the news on the TV. I caught a bit of a movie but turned it off for a bit to do some reading.

I got up a little late but dressed and went downstairs to grab breakfast. I didn’t see any sign of K at all this morning. I didn’t hear her for hours either.

I stayed up and watched The Core which is a movie I haven’t seen in years! F and I saw it in the cinema when it came out. It was silly and over the top and reasonably enjoyable too.

I went downstairs for lunch and then came back up and ate. I had my usual stuff for lunch and enjoyed it. I watched the news and then F called a bit later to say he was coming back.

I went downstairs to start working on dinner. Tonight I was making tacos and did something unusual tonight. I made some pico de gallo…or my version of it anyway. I chopped up some mini-tomatoes, chopped up a quarter of an onion, added some salt and pepper and a couple of dried herbs too. The recipe called for some lime juice or in a pinch some lemon juice. Instead, I used the kabosu that F had bought a couple of weeks ago. It’s fairly sour so it worked like a charm. I put it in the fridge for a bit to meld flavours.

After I made the pico de gallo I got started on the tacos. They didn’t take that long to make tonight, so that was good. I got everything out on the table by twenty after 7 or so.  I gave K tortillas today and showed her how to make up a taco and she liked it. F liked it too when he finally joined us. After a bit, F went to the kitchen and made himself some rice and had taco rice! That surprised me.

I did the dishes after dinner. F had scrubbed the frypan while he was waiting for his rice so it didn’t take me so much time to do everything. I listened to my usual podcasts at the time. I went upstairs when I was done, F had just gone upstairs too.

We relaxed for a while and then I went downstairs and took a shower. It was nice. I came back up and my show had already started. Boo! Still, it was on the DVR so no harm done. I tried to find my crochet but I couldn’t. I was rather upset about that. I did watch The Good Wife and it was really good again. There were some interesting people on the show. Michael J. Fox was on again and so was Vanessa Williams.

I turned off the telly after the show was over and got stuck into my blogging.  And, that’s about it.

So, that’s it for me. I have work tomorrow, so the first part of the day will be getting ready for it. Come back later on and hear all about my Tuesday. Until tomorrow….

Good on you for making some pico de gallo! I remember trying to cook (New) Mexican food in Japan and just trying to find ingredients was basically impossible, even in Tokyo. I never saw a jalapeno or green chile or the like! I could find jarred salsa at one of the shops in the neighborhood, but it was not very good sadly.

I hope things have blown over with K. I've been reading the details of that saga and feeling like you must be under tremendous pressure dealing with K. I could never be "the good Japanese daughter-in-law." I don't know how you manage!

To be honest, I didn't have any jalapenos or green chiles so I just left them out! I've only ever seen canned jalapenos at the store and when I do have jalapenos they don't really agree with me now I'm older, so figured it would be okay. It did taste very nice. The raw onion did give it a kick and so did the kabosu juice so it was decent, but not completely authentic. I do have an old jar of salsa in my fridge, but it was a tad suspect looking when I opened it, so I didn't want to use it.

There's a couple of places I can get salsa here, there's a Japanese brand that I often buy. It's okay, but no idea if it would be considered good, and then the import store often has a brand or two. We just don't use that much so sending hubby to the store for a jar seemed a bit silly when I could make something passable.

Now that the weather has turned a lot colder K has been spending more time in bed. She doesn't like to run the heater because of the cost of buying kerosene. It's bad for her, but a bit of a relief for me.

I'm definitely NOT a good Japanese daughter-in-law. I mostly try and ignore her! The fact that I can't understand her does help quite a bit. It does put me under a lot of pressure at times, true enough.

Anyway, thanks for visiting and commenting! It's always nice to hear from you!
