Wednesday - Clear and sunny, then snowy and colder
I woke up early this morning, I’m not sure why. I had to make a trip downstairs. At first I was worried that F was still here and needed my help, but when I checked, his car was gone. I’d like to tell you that I stayed up, but in fact, I went back to sleep for an hour or so. I got up around 9 and decided not to do laundry today. Oh dear.
I went outside to shovel a bit of snow between 10 and 11. It didn’t take that much time today. However, for the rest of the day, I lived in fear that the snowplough would go through again and put up a wall that I needed to go out again.
I had a fairly quiet day today. I didn’t see K at all. I heard her occasionally, but never actually bumped into her. At one point in the afternoon, I roused myself to sweep the stairs up to our room. Yay me.
I had a bit of time in the afternoon so I watched a little AppleTV. I’m really enjoying having comedy shows in my life again. It’s been hard not to have them for a while.
I was just about to go downstairs to get a start on dinner when F called to say he was finished work. He had a surprising question for me. He asked if I’d like to go out tonight. He isn’t working tomorrow so he wanted to go out tonight. He’d pick up a bento for K and then we could go out. I was surprised in a nice way. We haven’t gone out for ages together.
When he arrived at the house he gave K her bento and then we changed. I was done first as I’d started changing before he got back. I went downstairs and then went outside and did a little bit of snow shovelling. The steps had a little bit of snow on them, and so did the area around them.
We went to an izakaya that F likes and it was good tonight. It was quite quiet, so we were able to sit together and weren’t near anyone else. We had an order of yakitori, we got eight types of skewers each. It was good, and I was able to eat everything, despite not being overly fond of things like liver and heart. Bleck usually, but okay tonight. I had an umeshu soda for a change and really liked it. F had a couple of beers. We ordered a couple of other dishes. We shared an order of hot tofu, an order of deep fried eggplant and also a hot potato with butter. That was very good!
When we finished at the restaurant, I thought we couldn’t eat anymore, but F wanted to walk to another bar. We trudged off in the snow. There were no sidewalks right now and the snow was very packed and shiny in places, perfect for slipping on. F was going very fast and I had to ask him to slow down a couple of times. I didn’t want to fall and I was also afraid that he might! We were planning to go to one place, but then he changed his mind and we went to another. We ended up at The Good Luck Cafe. We had another drink each, F had a very cold beer and I had a cafe-au-lait! We also shared an order of mixed ajillo which was really good.
Finally, F was ready to go back to the house! He called a taxi and a few minutes later it picked us up and brought us back. We headed upstairs right away and just relaxed. F filled up the kerosene heater for me and after a bit I took a shower. Surprisingly a bit later, F took one too.
I’m not sure what I’m going to get up to tomorrow. F is planning to go to his doctor and then take his mother to her doctor. I guess I get to hold down the fort while they do that!
