Wednesday - Cold and Snowy
I took a long time to wake up this morning, but I did finally. F got up and went downstairs, I snoozed a little later. I got up and was dressed and ready to go at 10:45 or so, just a little after F said we should leave. However, he was nowhere in sight. He was waiting for a delivery, it came but not in time I think.
Around 12 he suggested going for lunch. We were too late to go to the movie so it was fine. I asked to go to Kissa Marina, a little restaurant near our doctor’s office. We went and had a nice lunch. The only downer was that we were put at the counter near the door and it got cold at times. I had the curry pasta which was really good, F had a Bread-Gratin thing which was really filling and stodgy.
We left and then decided to go and get a few things for the house so we could go to a later showing of the movie. We popped back to the house to grab the kerosene tanks. We went to Gyomu Supa to pick up a few things for the freezer. Sadly, they didn’t have any bagels, but they did have some whole wheat tortillas. I got some, and some frozen hamburgers and some frozen vegetables and a few treats for myself!
We visited a hundred yen shop for a few minutes and I picked up a couple of things. After that, we got the kerosene and headed back to the house. I put away the food and F did the kerosene. He spilled some of the kerosene and used some old towels to clean it up. He put the towels in the washing machine and proceeded to fill it up with some of his clothes, and the bathmat. I told him it was crazy and wasn’t a good idea.
He had been having stomach problems all day and wasn’t sure about going to a movie. He wanted to get some medicine. I approved of that and said that since we had some time, maybe we could get our groceries for the next couple of days too.
We went to the drugstore and then to the grocery store. I’m going to be making a cream stew for dinner tomorrow night. I hope it’ll last for two days or so.
We came back to the house and I put the food away again with interference from F. Why doesn’t he let me do it myself? He disappeared into the washroom and stayed there for the next 30 minutes. He came out at 5:30. I thought we had decided we would try to go to Mikawa and see the movie, but it started at 6 pm. With the weather and the fact that we hadn’t eaten meant that we couldn’t do it anymore. It was fine not to go if he wasn’t feeling well, but I’m pretty sure he was in the toilet watching YouTube videos.
I went downstairs, used the washroom, smelled the reek of kerosene in the washing machine area and got quite upset. I got more upset when I came upstairs and F was watching TV. I started yelling at him “No! You are not watching TV.” I turned it off. I was so angry with him. I’ve been hanging around all day wondering about going to the movie with him but not pushing him and then he just unilaterally decides that he’s going to watch TV in our room. NO! I know it doesn’t make any sense, but since I thought we were going to try and go, to have him watch TV meant that he had changed his mind again.
He buggered off downstairs but came back up at 5:55 and angrily said he was going to go to the movie now. Would I come? Well, no. The movie started in five minutes and there was no way to get there in time. He asked about another later show, but there wasn’t any. He’d YouTubed away our chance to see it. He knew that I wanted to go to the mall to get a pair of pants hemmed as well, so it is really annoying for me to miss out on the chance to go to the mall.
He sat downstairs with his mother for a while, maybe he made her something to eat, I don’t know. Around 9 pm he came back upstairs and asked if I needed anything from the store. I asked if I could get dinner and he offered to get me something if I told him what I wanted. Well, stores these days sell out of everything early so I had no idea what I’d be able to ask for. I asked if I could go and he said I could if I left right away. I did.
We went out to MaxValu and did a little shopping. F bought some laundry detergent and I got some sushi and some chicken for dinner. He got his mother something for breakfast and a pack of sushi for himself too. It was on sale!
We came back to the house via a convenience store where he actually paid for the Internet bill. I wandered the store and bumped into an old student from my school and L’Eikaiwa. We chatted for a few minutes and then F and I left the store. We were talking a little nicer to each other by now.
We came back to the house and I brought the food upstairs. F had to try to rewash his clothes and the bathmat as they just reeked. The whole bathroom smelled awful. Unfortunately, he chose to hang his clothes upstairs in our room. Now our room smells like kerosene.
I ate my food, F ate his too. He asked me to lookout some photos for him to take to his office. They are making a scrapbook for his retirement or something.
He’s finally gone to bed, he should be working tomorrow if he is feeling better. I have a suspicion that he won’t be, but I hope he is.
So, today wasn’t a good day. The weather was bad and so were our moods. I hope that tomorrow is better. Come back later if you like and see if it is. Until tomorrow….

Is your husband retiring soon?
Sort of! He turned 60 last year so come the end of March, he will cease to be employed by the government. Usually what they do is rehire the person at a lower salary as a part-time employee until full retirement at 65. The whole system confuses me! I think F wants to keep working though.
