Monday - Cold and a bit cloudy

I got up this morning after a good night’s sleep. I hadn’t set an alarm, so it was surprising that I woke up and it wasn’t afternoon yet! I got up, went downstairs and then came back up and got dressed. I plugged in my kettle for some tea or coffee and a little later F came up and wanted to take me out for lunch. I really just wanted my drink first, but he was insistent, so out we went. He had asked where I’d like to go and I reeled off 3 places. He asked me again and I said I didn’t really care which one he chose. He chose the tonkatsu restaurant in the Bussankan, the tourist place. That was fine with me.

We drove there and parked the car. Now, at first, F was going to park in the regular parking lot, but the Tonkatsu place is in the annex and there’s a much closer parking lot. I suggested moving the car, and he did. The man is on crutches people, why wouldn’t he think of that for himself?

We actually had quite a nice lunch there, we both had tonkatsu and it was good. It came with tonjiru, pork soup and shredded cabbage and pickles. I was happy.

We went to the nearby hardware store to buy some more masks. Happily, they had the brand that we like that is made for people with glasses. They don’t fog up quite as much as some of the other ones we’ve tried. We got a box for our room, and another box of masks for the genkan. If we forget a mask, or if someone comes to the door, we can just grab a mask and feel a bit protected.

We went to the Chido Museum in the afternoon. F renewed my membership and we did a quick tour of a couple of buildings. We visited the Hina Dolls and then went up to the Exhibition Room. They were featuring old maps of the area, and they were quite beautiful and artistic.

We didn’t visit the garden today. It was really wet on Thursday when I went and I didn’t want F to run the risk of falling if he slipped.

We went to Starbucks for a drink after the museum. I wasn’t sure how we got in, but we did. We both had lattes, mine was decaf I hope!

F wanted to go back to the house after coffee, so we did. We spent a few hours at the house until I suggested getting his mother a bento.

We were discussing places to go and have dinner. On our way down the stairs F said he wanted to go to Edoichi. It’s a yakiniku buffet place. It’s expensive, crowded, and self-serve, so a bit difficult for F to handle right now, I thought. I told him no. When I got in the car I told him that if he wanted yakiniku we could go to a good place where they bring the food to us. He looked as puzzled as I had felt at the Edoichi suggestion. He said he didn’t want yakiniku. I asked him what he did want then. He said, “I suggested Udonichi but you said you didn’t like it.” Well, Udonichi is not the same place that I thought I heard! I do like it. It’s an udon place and most of the waitresses are older and the food is good. Completely a different story!  We ended up going to Udonichi and it was fine. I had a nabe with miso soup and it was okay. I didn’t love it, but it was my fault for choosing it.

We picked up a few groceries after dinner, including some food for K. F is taking the day off tomorrow so I told him that it might be nice if he cooked dinner since I’m working tomorrow. I think he’s going to make nabe. If his soup base is good, it’ll be fine.

We came back to the house and had a quiet night in. F got his mother up to eat her bento, we came upstairs. I showered and then watched the last episode of The Bold Type. They did get to finish the show, but they wrapped everything up a little too neatly! I enjoyed the series for the most part.

Since the show ended I’ve been finishing up things so that I can get to bed fairly soon. It’s been a long three days. Normally, I’d be happy that F is heading back to work, but he isn’t. Tomorrow he’s taking his mother to the doctor in the morning and going to his doctor in the afternoon. I just hope that he doesn’t get in my way when I’m teaching tomorrow.

Come back later if you like and hear all about my day. Until tomorrow….
