Thursday -Sunny and warm in the morning, torrential rain at night.
Well, today was quite the day…didn’t start that well, but did get better.
I was sleeping away at 7:50 this morning when I got an alert on my phone. It was quite horrible to hear, woke me up and I knew exactly what happened…Our dear neighbour in North Korea decided to send those of us in Tohoku a little wake-up call. The alert let us know that we had a missile pass over us this morning. F came upstairs just after that and he watched the TV to see what happened. I went back to sleep until my actual alarm went off.
F and I had a bit of a snuggle and then we got moving. I got dressed and we actually did leave the house just before 10am. On the way to Gusto, F decided to get a little bit more gas. He drove into the gas station and two minutes later drove back out. He had forgotten his wallet. Unbelievable. We drove back to the house and he grabbed his wallet. Then, we drove back…to the gas station. He knew that breakfast at Gusto only goes until 10:30. He filled up the car with gas and then we leave the gas station. He goes the long way. In fact, I think he just forgot where we were going. We got to Gusto at 10:25, got to our table and F ordered his breakfast at 10:28. By the time I got the tablet to order my breakfast…breakfast was over. I was the only one who really wanted to have breakfast so I was rather upset.
F got upset too and decided to call off the trip. I didn’t say anything and I ordered something to eat. When the food came, we just ate. It was fine, but I really wanted my scrambled eggs this morning!
We set out on our way. I put on some good tunes on the iPhone and mostly enjoyed our way to Yamagata. We first went to my tea shop, Lupicia where I spent much too much money, but I got some teas for Christmas so I’ll just deal with it! I was happy to be in Yamagata city too.
We had a very nice lunch at a yakiniku restaurant. F had mentioned yakiniku earlier when we talked about where to go for lunch. It was pretty good.
Our next thing was to go to the Aeon Mall in Yamagata. F wanted to buy himself a new belt and a new jacket. I told him that if he found a nice jacket I would get it for him for his birthday. He tried on a few, but again, he’s still looking for something that he used to have and bought 25 or more years ago…in other words, they don’t have it in the shops anymore!
We looked around the men’s department and F tried on a few jackets. There was one I liked on him, but he didn’t feel the same. He did get a little bit pushy saleswoman at one point who tried to get him to buy a reversible shirt. It was nice but too expensive and in all honesty, I didn’t like the colours on F. It was a bit dark.
He got a belt there and asked me to buy it for his present. I did, but I hope he remembers when his birthday arrives that I have already given him his present!
Next up we drove to Costco. We found a fairly decent parking space. It was still a bit busy as it is a National Holiday here. We went into the store. We first went to customer service and we put in a complaint about my Havarti Cheese. This last batch got so mouldy that I had to throw a wack of it out. I had taken some pictures of it and showed them to the clerk. They refunded our money so that was nice.
I basically wanted F to go and have a drink and a seat while I did the shopping, but he wanted to look around first. We did go and have a look at men’s jackets and lo and behold, F found one that he liked! He tried it on over the big sweater he was wearing and it fitted him. Yay! The colour was okay and he liked it. We put it in the cart. Next up, we had a look at the Christmas trees. They had some gorgeous ones, with a price tag to match. F said he would pay for one, but honestly, they were much too much money.
After a bit, F went off to have a seat and I did the shopping. I picked up a lot of stuff, but somehow, I didn’t find a lot of stuff that I was looking for. Finally, I got to the end of my shopping so I texted F. He joined up with me and we went through the checkout.
We took the food out to the car and then came back in so we could have a snack and a drink. I had a little more than a snack, I had a piece of mushroom pizza, an ice cream sundae (today was marron mixed with vanilla) and a drink. F had the same except for the pizza. I did give him a taste of it. We went back out to the car and visited the last station, where F filled up the car.
Then, we were on our way back. I had asked about dinner and F suggested getting it on the way back. That’s what we did. We stopped at a tonkatsu restaurant and had tonkatsu. It was good. No big deal. We’ve been there before so I had a discount coupon so that helped keep the price down.
We drove back to Tsuruoka. Soon after leaving the restaurant, we got into some very heavy rain. It was quite bad. I snoozed a lot on the way back.
When we got near Tsuruoka I reminded F that we needed to pick up a couple of things for dinner and for people to have breakfast tomorrow. We went to the grocery store and got a few things.
We came back to the house. K had left the outside light on for us, that was nice of her. We unpacked the car and put the groceries away.
I didn’t watch any TV tonight, I did turn it on to set it for tomorrow’s news programmes, but apart from that, I watched YouTube.
Tomorrow I have to do my usual laundry and made have some nice tea. We’ll see how that goes!
It was long, but it turned out to be a good day. The start wasn’t great (thanks North Korea) but it ended quite well.
Come back later if you want to hear all about my Friday. I’m sure it won’t be as long-winded as this was! Until tomorrow….
