Saturday - Sunny and warm

Well, yesterday didn’t end well if you remember. Today didn’t start that well either. I woke up at 7 am on a Saturday when F’s alarm clock rang. He’d got up and hadn’t turned it off. I was not best pleased. I had to turn it off. I also then had to go downstairs where F was.

I went back to bed, F went out.

At 9:50 F came back and asked me if I still wanted to go to a dermatologist. I said I did and got up and got dressed. He didn’t really speak to me much, but we got in the car and drove to the clinic. We basically had to keep going as there was no parking available in the area. We ended up going around the block and parking in the bank building’s parking lot. That’s kind of a no no!

We walked to the clinic and checked in. It was busy. The worker at the door told us that we wouldn’t be seen until after 12, so we could go out and come back around 12.

We went back to the car and drove off. We ended up at Komeda Coffee again and had coffee and their free breakfast. It was nice. I had the thick toast with egg paste. It was very nice, but I found it difficult to open my mouth enough to get the toast in my mouth! I had to squish it a bit.

We went back to the clinic again and again, couldn’t park in their parking area. It was still busy, but a little less so. We checked back in and managed to get a seat. F was seen after about 40 minutes and I was finally seen about an hour and a half after we got back.

The doctor asked me if I had any idea what happened and I told her that I think it was from the chilli I made a week ago. I’ve been sensitive to tomatoes for the last few years, but this last time I made it, I had a bad reaction. The corners of my mouth have started cracking and the whole thing is quite painful and horrible! I was given some ointment to put on after meals and before bedtime.

We went to the pharmacy and picked up our medicines and then we were done. F was almost friendly by this point. I think he thought I was stupid for going to the doctor but when she said to me that it must hurt and I agreed, maybe he realized what I’ve been putting up with for a week.

The place that F had wanted to go to for lunch was closed, so I suggested another local place nearby, Arpeggio. We went there and got to sit at the counter. We both had the same thing, the Soboro. It was good.  It was also easy for me to eat since I could eat it with a spoon and just slide it in my mouth!

After we finished there F suggested going to the Art Forum. We parked in the parking area and went in. They had a display of local craftworks. There were a lot of tables, boxes and such on display. They were so beautiful. Most goods were made from bamboo and lacquer. We also went to the first floor display of children’s art. I liked quite a bit of it.

When we left the Art Forum, I suggested going to Starbucks and F was okay with that. We were able to find parking AND seats there, so that was good. I got the drinks from my card and we spent a nice time in the store.

F finally wanted to leave and he bought a few things at a grocery store. We went back to the house. F got busy and made his mother’s dinner, I went upstairs and went back to bed!

F came in and woke me up about an hour later wondering if i wanted to go out for dinner. He got into bed with me and there was some nice snuggling happening before I fell asleep again!

I woke up at 7pm and this time I got up. This time we talked about going out for dinner and finally decided to try Nagomi, the soba/tempura/sushi place we like. I was fine with it.

We got to Nagomi and they were still open. We were able to get a table and ordered. I had my favourite soba with duck and F had a Keisen don. Later on, he ordered some squid tempura for us. When I went up to pay I noticed that the owner hadn’t written the ika gesso on the bill. I was telling her at the same time she noticed so that worked out well.

We came back to the house and relaxed. It was only 9pm but I put on my pyjamas. I decided to watch an episode of Fringe, so I did that. I also noticed that The Big Bang Theory was back on Prime, so I watched an episode and then it was time to watch FBI. It was quite a good episode about a kidnapped boy.

I turned off the TV and went on to YouTube. F has gone to bed and is sleeping. Tomorrow he is planning to do some carpentry to make a stand for his fish. I’m hoping he’ll do that in the morning when I’m sleeping!

So, today turned into a better day than I thought it would be. I’m rather glad about that.

Come back later if you like and hear all about my day. Until tomorrow….

Oh you poor thing! My son recently developed painful cracking in the corners of his mouth and I pinpointed it to eating tomatoes or anything containing tomato. He's never had a problem with tomatoes before, not sure why it happened. But it is so painful when it occurs. I'm glad you got some cream for it. His doctor gave him a steroid cream that stops the reaction from getting worse. Tomato is in so much though so sometimes it's hard to avoid. Hope your mouth feels better soon x

Sorry you're dealing with that skin condition. Sounds painful! I don't know if you follow DrDray on youtube, but you might check out her Q&A video about angular cheilitis (angular stomatitis). Though hopefully the derm you saw had a good solution to the problem!

Thank you both for commenting.

Kelly, it is true how tomatoes are in everything. It's rather annoying. This is the worst reaction I've ever had to them. Usually my face gets a little itchy for a couple of hours and then I'm fine again. I'm sorry to hear that your son has a similar problem. Is he like that with other nightshade family produce or not? A friend here is allergic to eggplant/aubergine...I've always been okay with them but will keep an eye on it from now on.

"Rosa" I Googled my condition and came to the conclusion that it might be angular cheilitis too. The doctor didn't say it was that, but she may have not known the English for it or something. I got an ointment that does seem to be helping, I have to put it on after meals and before bed. It looks redder today, but it doesn't hurt quite as much when I open my mouth so that's a good thing!

She told me to come back next week if it doesn't improve with the cream, so I will be doing that.

Thanks for commenting and visiting!

After a bit of investigation, he doesn't seem to be like that with other nightshades but he's noticed with mustard or any other spicy foods he has a similar reaction. In fact mustard is even worse.

Good to know. I did wonder if the spice in the chilli had anything to do with it. I'm usually okay with mustard, but I almost had a relapse last week when I made tacos. There was tomato powder in the spice mix, but I thought I'd risk it. They aren't terribly spicy, but it could be the type of spice too.

Or maybe I have to avoid Mexican food altogether! (NO! That's not fair!!)
