Monday - Clear and sunny

I went to bed a little early last night as I knew that I had to be up earlier than usual today. When F got up at 6:30 this morning I woke up too. That was a tad too early for me. I went back to sleep after he left but woke up again a little before 8 am. And it was a good thing that I did! The Academy Awards started at 8:00 am here today! I hadn’t been quite sure when it was start.

I watched the whole thing, and it was good. The show didn’t get bogged down, the acceptance speeches were great in some cases, and Ryan Gosling absolutely nailed “I’m Just Ken” with the help of most of the other Kens from Barbie. I would say that was my favourite part of the show! I haven’t seen Oppenheimer yet as it doesn’t open here until the end of this month, so can’t really comment much about the awards it got. Jimmy Kimmel was a decent host and my biggest complaint about the whole thing was that the In Memorium wasn’t done very well. I tend to enjoy the singing and didn’t think the dancers were needed. I also didn’t like that they didn’t show the people that died in close up. I suppose I can go to the website to see it better. It’s a small thing in a pretty good, not too controversial show.

It was all finished by 11:30 or so, so I grabbed some cereal and came back upstairs to eat. I had eaten an onigiri earlier in the morning along with lots of decaf tea.

I tried to take a nap in the afternoon, but it didn’t really work. I was more awake than asleep for it.

I got up for lunch and ate up here while watching another episode of Fringe. I’ve started the third season I think.

F called after 5:15 to say that he was on his way back to the house. I went down a little later to get a start on cleaning up the kitchen. Yes, for some reason, when I come back on Mondays the kitchen is really messy and dishes haven’t been put away properly. I took care of that, mostly by rewashing them and then drying them.

Tonight I made baked chicken, bibinba rice, beet and feta salad and regular salad. It was actually rather nice. Neither K nor F had seconds. Sigh. Oh well. F had all kinds of comments about the beet salad. He said it would be better if the beets were crunchy. Huh? I used cooked beets…do raw beets crunch? I have no idea. He doesn’t like beets very much though.

The news that we watched during dinner was full of memories of the Great Tohoku Earthquake in 2011. It was a rough time for those of us who lived here then. I was lucky enough not to be immediately affected by the quake or the aftermath, but it did affect me and my family in the years afterwards.

I cleared the table and washed the dishes. I went upstairs after that and relaxed and watched most of the Oscar replay. I pointed out the good bits to F when he came upstairs. He didn’t really care though.

I took a shower and then came back upstairs and watched some YouTube. I started blogging too. And now, we are up to date!

Tomorrow, F is taking the day off to do some personal business. I had planned to sleep in and then relax some more, but I’m not sure if I’ll be doing that or not!

Come back later if you like and hear all about my day. Until tomorrow….
