Tuesday - Warmish and but cloudy

As I start today, I’m watching an online memorial service for a person I never met. She was from my home city and lived in Southern Japan for many years. She unfortunately died a few days ago so I never will have the chance to meet her. The memorial service was much more loving than the funeral I went to in Japan.

On with my day. I slept quite late this morning, but so did F. He finally dragged himself downstairs to make his mother something to eat. When he came upstairs, I was already up and dressed to go out. He asked where I wanted to go for lunch, but I wasn’t really fussed if I’m honest. He was still in his pyjamas too, so I didn’t get the feeling that he wanted to go out.

He had a nap and I went downstairs and grabbed my very late breakfast. I brought it upstairs to eat. It was my usual cereal and yogurt.

Around 2:30 F suddenly shook a leg and asked if I’d like to go out for coffee. I reminded him we needed to buy groceries too, so we decided to do both. We went to Komeda first, but the parking lot was full and we couldn’t find a space. I asked that we go over to Yamaya to see the foreign foods on display. I ended up getting some rooibos tea and some snacks, F got some adult beverage too. We went back over to Komeda and this time found a parking space.

We went into Komeda and were seated after a few minutes. I wanted a decaf coffee and F got a regular one. I also suggested sharing some fried chicken because I was a little hungry and I needed to last until dinner. We shared a basket and it was very nice.

We did a quick round of the grocery store and I got food for the next two days. F was complaining at the end that it was expensive. Yeah! I know that. But, we needed breakfasts for him and his mother for two days, lunch for his mother for tomorrow, and then dinners for the three of us for the next two days. Plus, I bought some wrap and some tin foil, so some of it won’t have to be bought for a while.

We came back to the house after that. F shovelled the small amount of snow outside and I put the groceries away. I went upstairs after that. I spent time on my computer and then I got a text from F. He wanted to know if he should make dinner right away. I asked him how long it would take and he said 30 minutes. I asked him whether he’d rather eat at 6:30 or 7pm. He said at 7 pm so I suggested he take a short rest first, which he did.

F went downstairs to the kitchen and then called me down around 7pm. As usual, he wasn’t quite ready. He hadn’t put drinks out on the table. The nabe was cooked though, so that was good. We all had some nabe and it was good. He had bought a soup to go with it, so that made it tasty!

After dinner, I took my bowl and glass to the kitchen and then I left. F doesn’t help me that much after dinner and I wasn’t about to help him tonight!

I went upstairs and a bit later F came up too. He said that he should go and buy kerosene since we only had one tank downstairs. I told him that the tank in our heater would need filling up soon too, so it was a good idea. He nicely filled up the tank for me, then took off to get more kerosene. I did ask if he wanted me to go too, but he said no.

I watched an episode of The Big Bang Theory and then tonight’s episode of FBI: Most Wanted. It was okay, but a bit stupid I thought.

And that’s about it for today. I have to cook dinner tomorrow night and make a real start on my latest column. I’ve been brainstorming some movies to look at and write about.

Come back later if you like and hear all about my day. Until tomorrow….
