Saturday - Warmer in the daytime with some snow

I dragged myself out of bed this morning and showered.  Then I got dressed.  I finished just as F came back from the doctor.  After checking my email and such I got really tired and took 40 winks.  We left the apartment before 11am.

We had a cheap and cheerful brunch at Gusto and then F took me to my school.  He was a real dear and helped me clean out the parking space for me.  I did the route to the building, but F transported the snow over to the nearby dumping area.

I taught my class and it went well.  After class I did my paperwork, had a cup of tea and read the newspapers and got caught up for the year so far.

F picked me up and we came home for a while. Around 8 we started to think of dinner. It was one of those nights when we were fighting about what to have.  He wanted fish, I did not.  We ended up at Grado and had a lovely meal.  Tonight it was a Special to welcome the new year. I had beef, F had fish.  It came with soup, bread or rice, appetisers, pasta and beverage.  Very nice.

We came home again and relaxed. Or tried to.  The heater wouldn’t start.  Recently the heater has been smelling bad and not lighting properly.  F did a lot of magic on it, and thankfully got it going again.  If he hadn’t, I would probably have gone to bed with my hot blanket turned all the way up and wouldn’t have got out of bed until April!

I set up the bread maker tonight for another attempt at Cinnamon Cranberry bread.  I’m trying the long version tonight AND  it’s going to be in a whole wheat bread.  To stop the cranberries from sticking to each other, I chopped them up and then put the cinnamon directly onto the berries.  It seemed to help stop them sticking, so I hope that is what happens.

We also finished up the mincemeat tarts (no more ‘till next year) and had some tea.  It was a little quite, but I’m tired so am rather glad of that.

No plans yet for tomorrow, except I may go on a shopping trip to get a waist bag.  I still call it a rumpetaske after the two crazy Norwegians I went camping with after college! Anyway, I’m tired and I need some sleep.  I’ll probably write tomorrow again.  Night!

Hi Helen! How odd, we've got the same heater problem right now and I can't figure out how to take the cover off to check out why it's stinking up the house!

And I have to say, your bread making adventures make me long for a bread machine. I'd be twice my size (already not insignificant!) if I had one though. One trick to keep sticky fruits from sticking together is to toss them with a tablespoon or so of the flour from the bread recipe. (You probably already know that trick though!)

And how are you liking the latest Sherlock episodes? I'm looking forward to seeing Cumberbatch in Star Trek!

Hey Rosa!

As a former low carber I was a little worried about getting my bread maker. One of the first things I did was order some whole wheat flour so at least I could eat healthier bread. So much of what is sold here is that soft marshmallowey bread. Bleck. It hasn't been too bad so far, mostly because my husband eats a lot of it!

I did know about the flour trick, and I used a variation of that last night! I used the cinnamon to coat the cut up cranberries, plus a little of the flour. Worked like a charm. There was only one little bit of cranberry left in the pan this morning. Thanks for reminding me though :-)

Sadly, the Sherlock Episodes were just on for New Years. We saw the second season again. I really hope we get to see the third season soon. Have they made it?

I'm looking forward to seeing Benedict Cumberbatch in just about anything ! He was great in Tinker,Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Did you see it? Star Trek, bring it on!

Thanks for visiting.
Oh, and the bread was amazing! Really good.
