Saturday - Sunny and warmish

Last night, or really, early this morning when F and I went to bed, it was 5 am. Yes, really. Sigh. I couldn’t get myself off to bed for some reason. I woke up a couple of hours later and noticed that my friend had suggested meeting today for lunch at her new to her house. I checked with F who was awake and he said it was okay. I texted her back that lunch was fine, but we were having a lazy morning. She also said she didn’t want us to bring anything.

I slept for a couple hours more.  When I got up, I sent F off to get something for his mother’s lunch and dinner too, since we didn’t plan to come back early tonight. He did, and he also bought a couple of things to take with us for lunch. I grabbed some beets from the kitchen, since I know my friend likes them.

Around 11:30 we set off for Sakata. It was a bit hazy out, but sunny. We couldn’t see Mt. Chokai for ages, but the fields around the road were beautiful.

We arrived a little late, but no one seemed to mind. We spent quite a few hours with our friend and her children. It was lovely for all of us as we haven’t spent much time together due to work and the pandemic.

F and I left around 5 pm when our friend and her children had to go and run errands. We decided to go and have dinner before our movie. F suggested going to an Indian restaurant in Sakata, it’s run by Japanese people but the food is pretty good. Unfortunately it didn’t open until 5:30. We waited in the car and when it did open there was a little crowd waiting to get in!

We had a really good meal there. I could have had spicier curry and the naan was a bit soggy, but the tandori chicken was lovely and tender. Surprisingly so in a way!

About halfway through our meal, I realized that there was no way we’d make the movie. Oh well. Honestly, it wasn’t one that I was dying to see. It’s biggest attraction for me was that it was in English! The reviews have been horrible for it, so I don’t think we missed much.

We left the restaurant after our meal and drove to Mikawa. I had suggested going to the Sakata Aeon Mall, but F blithely sailed past it, so I was a little sad. Oh well. In Mikawa we visited Don Quihote and picked up a few things. We bought masks and snacks, F got himself some adult beverages and we just enjoyed ourselves shopping and looking at “stuff”.

We came back to Tsuruoka and since we were both thirsty I suggested stopping at Mosburgers to get something to drink. F liked that idea, so he drove in that direction. I used my prepaid card and got us a couple of oolong teas. We sat for a while and chatted before coming back to the house.

Surprisingly K was still up when we arrived. I think F talked to her. We put the food away and then came upstairs.

We had a quiet evening in. I didn’t turn on the TV at all today! We both watched a bit of YouTube on our respective computers too. I did a few rows of crochet.

And that was our day. F is already sleeping and I should go to bed soon as I’m yawning away.

Come back later if you like to hear all about my Sunday. Until tomorrow….

Hi Helen,
This is a completely random question, but just out of curiosity, what type of sewing machine do you have?
I recently bought a BabyLock machine and it's great! Did you know the company that produces them are located in Yamagata? I saw that and thought of you. :)

Actually, I don't have a sewing machine. I've thought about getting one, but then I'd be tempted to start collecting material the way that I collect yarn! We already don't have a lot of room here.

That is cool about the BabyLock machine. I had no idea! There is a surprising amount of manufacturing done in Yamagata. My own city has quite a few factories for world famous companies here.

Thanks for visiting again. Hope things are well with you.
