Sunday - Warm and Sunny
I got up this morning just after F left with his mother. I took care of a personal chore and then came back upstairs and relaxed for a while.
F and K came back around 12 or so and F invited me downstairs to have lunch. They’d received bentos from his uncle and aunt for the Obon ceremony for K’s mother. We had a bit of a small lunch. Two bentos between three people didn’t go very far. I think I swallowed a fishbone, and after I did that, I spent a bit of time Googling to see if I’m going to die from it. Probably not, unless it punctures something.
After lunch, I was in a bit of a mood, to be honest. The food wasn’t my sort of thing, or, it was and I wanted more, one or the other. I took my plate and glass to the kitchen, washed them, and then went upstairs. F came up a few minutes later and asked if I wanted to go out for something else to eat. Yes. I also suggested going to get me a new fan. My old fan, that I’ve had for years, has basically given up the ghost. It didn’t stop after three hours anymore, the up and down pole was hard to adjust, and the plastic on the back had cracked so the fan itself wasn’t secure anymore. It was definitely time to replace it!
He also took a couple of moments to make a reservation for dinner for us next month. Next month it will be our 20th anniversary. He complained a bit about the price, but it is a big anniversary I think!
Silly me thought we’d go and get food first, but we didn’t. We went to get a fan first. I found the section and had a good look around. I was hoping for something inexpensive. They did have a couple of cheap fans, but they did look cheap. I ended up getting a fan that can extend fairly high, has a remote control and can go up and down as well as side to side. I can make it go faster and slower automatically during its spinning too. It’s pretty cool. We got the last one in the store of this type, with a discount so that was good. It doesn’t have a box, but I’m okay with that.
After buying the fan, we went off to S-Mall to eat. Except we didn’t! We went upstairs and went to the hundred yen shop and got something for K and some things for me. Then, we went downstairs to Doutor and had decaf iced coffees. I had a sandwich too, which was very nice.
We went upstairs again after putting the shopping in the car. For a couple of weeks there has been a display of old toys at the mall, and today we went to see it. F really enjoyed it and even pointed out one or two things that he used to have. I enjoyed it as I like seeing the things people used to have. However, I have to say that the boys' toys were all cool things like rockets and cars and robots and the girls were things like toys that cleaned or stovetops that worked or “house-y” kinds of things. It’s hard to believe that Japan was even more sexist 50 years ago. Well, not that hard really.
We decided to get groceries next. I asked F if he wanted to take K out for dinner or if we should buy her a bento. He decided bento. I bought a couple of things for dinner for the next night or two and then we came back to the house. I put away the groceries and discovered that over the last few days, K had eaten two of the three ice creams that we’d bought last week. She remembers eating one of them.
F and I went upstairs and we relaxed together for a while. It was nice. F had suggested a couple of Japanese restaurants that I actually quite like so I was fine with either one of them. There are places that I like here, I just get tired of F always picking the cheapest places, since they aren’t very good.
Around 7 pm we left the house and went to Misono. It’s a small family-run restaurant that has both ramen and other types of dishes. I ordered the yakiniku set meal and F ordered large ramen. I think mine was actually the pork saute since it was one whole “pork chop”, but it tasted good and the meal was huge. I got rice, salad, pickles, miso soup, tofu, potato salad and pork.
As we were eating we could hear fireworks and I could actually see them from my seat. That was a nice thing to have with dinner.
After dinner, we came back to the house and decided to get ourselves ice cream on the way back. We stopped in at 7-11 and got some, brought it back to the house and ate it.
We had a quiet evening in. F is back at work tomorrow and I have one last day to try and figure out my teaching online.
Come back later if you like and hear all about my day on Monday. Until tomorrow….
