Sunday - Rainy and cooler

I slept in fairly late this morning. I was thinking about getting out of bed when F announced that he had booked himself a massage at 11:30.  I was a tad annoyed since I thought we had planned to go to the Aquarium, renew our memberships and have lunch there. However…not to be.

I decided that I’d go to S-Mall, have my lunch there and then do a little shopping. So, I got F to drive me to S-Mall. He dropped me off and I went in. I did check the hotel’s lunch, but it didn’t appeal. I ended up going to the Pizza Hut Express. I had carbonara and a mini pizza with a drink. It was quite nice.

I walked around the mall, did a little shopping at the hundred yen shop, and then checked out the grocery store. I didn’t buy anything in the grocery store, although they had some of my Havarti cheese.

F called me to say that he was done, so I asked if he’d like to come and have a drink with me at Doutor. He said he would.

We had our drink and I asked F if he needed to eat again. He said he could but he didn’t need to. I had just eaten so I didn’t need to either. I let F know about the Pop-Up restaurant upstairs. Today was the last day for a Gyutan restaurant from Sendai. We haven’t been to Sendai in years so haven’t enjoyed Gyutan in ages. I had thought we might go there for dinner, but F wanted to go then. Ack.

We went to the restaurant, we were able to go in right away. We had to pay on the way in which was a tad odd. They only had two meals on offer, the third was sold out. We got the Gyutan Teishoku. It was okay. Some of the Gyutan was tender and delicious, some of it was rather chewy. It came with “tail soup”, rice, pickled vegetables and there was a chocolate mochi thing for dessert. After the meal, I told F that I gave the meal a 6 out of 10, with the chocolate mochi getting a whole point because it was so good!

We went and did a little shopping after second lunch. We drove to the MaxValu area and went to Homac. We bought a new bathmat for the bathroom. I haven’t been able to get the kerosene smell out of the old one and I need a bathmat! We picked up a few other things for the house and then decided to try the new grocery store that just opened nearby. We couldn’t park close to the building, so had to walk in the rain. F is still in pain, so I had hoped we could park closer. We toured the store but didn’t buy very much. We got a cabbage, some food for K and not much else. The meat looked good, but I couldn’t think of anything to make with what they had on offer!

We went over to the house and dropped off some of our shopping. F and I left again and went to the grocery store and bought the stuff we needed for the next couple of days. Food is getting so expensive. I hear it is happening everywhere. Sigh.

We brought that back to the house and took a bit of a rest. F decided that he’d take his mother to the onsen at 8 pm. Around 7:00 pm I suggested that we go and get something to eat so F offered up an Udon restaurant. I’m not a huge fan, and I’d already eaten noodles today but said it was fine. We went to the big chain place in the old Soba restaurant.

The restaurant wasn’t very busy and they had a duck and negi udon bowl on offer, so I had that. F had a simple udon one and we both had some tempura. We had a fairly nice meal and were back at the house before 8:00pm. Woot.

F got ready and took K out to the onsen. I stayed at the house and watched some Apple TV, The After Party. It was fine. They came back a little later. F always gets annoyed with his mother because she takes a long time, but I try to explain that she doesn’t really have a concept of time anymore. The onsen closes at 9:00 pm and I think K was the last person in the onsen. I can understand why he was angry, but…

Around 9:35 F asked me when the drugstores close.  I told him that most were 10:00 pm, but a few do stay open until midnight. F wanted to go to the closest drugstore. The ironic thing is I was just remembering that we hadn’t been to a drugstore and I needed something too! I changed into my outside pants and went to the drugstore with F.

We got some stuff and then we came back to the room. We had a quiet evening in. I watched some YouTube and relaxed, F did too. He’s back at work tomorrow, poor thing.

So that was it. It was a pretty good day and I walked a lot. My walking apps were pretty pleased with me!

Tomorrow I’m back on kitchen duty and having to do stuff around the house. Come back later if you like and hear all about my day. Until tomorrow….

The food gets more expensive here as well- had to cut eating out too for the same reason. All the prices went up rather quickly!

It is rather sad, isn't it? Restaurants have been hard hit by the pandemic and now food costs. It makes it difficult to go out, but I like to support local businesses when I can.

We don't go out much during the week, but I don't want to cook on the weekend. We generally go to quite reasonable places but may have to rethink that soon :-(. We don't have tipping in Japan, which helps us a lot, cost-wise.

Thanks for visiting and commenting.
