Wednesday - Cloudy and rainy
Last night when I was trying to post my blog I discovered that my dear husband was “watching” something in bed and eating up all of our bandwidth. I was having a horrible time posting anything to my blog. He was snoring so I knew that he wasn’t really watching his computer anyway.
This morning, I woke up once around 9 am and then I went back to bed and slept until 11. F was up. I went downstairs, and then came back up to get dressed. F came back upstairs and basically went back to bed again. I finally asked him if he was going to get up. He offered to take me out for lunch and I said that I’d take him out for lunch. I suggested a place on the other side of town. It’s a “special occasion” sort of place. I don’t know their usual closed day, but I’ve been there before on a Wednesday. We got there, had a horrible time parking and then discovered that the place was closed!
I told F he could go anywhere and he chose a restaurant a few blocks away. We were able to go in and we had a fairly nice meal. F had left his phone at home or somewhere, so we actually got to talk a little bit. It is pretty sad that the only time he talks to me is when he doesn’t have his phone with him. I paid for lunch.
We went to Hachimonjiya to look at fancy pens. They had some nice ones, and some that were very expensive, but not what I was looking for. I also bought myself a book for making nengajo at the end of the year.
F wasn’t feeling that great just then so we came back to the house. F talked to his mother and then came upstairs and went to sleep. I was a little miffed because I had hoped that we would do something in the afternoon. We didn’t.
F went to sleep and showed no signs of waking up, so just before 6 pm I woke him up and asked about going out. His mother was up downstairs and I thought that we should get her something for her dinner. Happily, F agreed.
We went off to Mina and got groceries for tomorrow and also for breakfasts and lunches. We brought the food back to the house. I brought some upstairs, and F gave his mother her small bento.
We left again a few minutes later for our dinner. F said that he had no idea where to go, so I suggested going for soba to a nice restaurant on the other side of the city. F liked that idea, so we went off. We were able to get in right away and had a nice meal. F had new soba and I had hot niku soba or soba with meat. Mine was really delicious.
I asked F if we could go to the nearby hundred yen shop after our dinner and he said it was okay. When we left the restaurant we headed over there and ended up going to the washroom in the grocery store before going to the hundred yen shop. I did rather a lot of shopping. I got stuff. I got some things for Christmas dinner (plates/napkins), some Christmas ornaments for my tree, some mailing goods for my ornaments and some snacks. I had to go through the self-checkout and again had a little problem but figured it out, sort of.
I went out to the car. F had been in the store, but needed to go to the drugstore and told me he’d wait in the car for me. It was good that he didn’t have to wait for me.
We just came back to the house. I was quite disappointed. F didn’t get any cake, but then again, he probably didn’t want one. I feel really sad that he didn’t get an exciting birthday, but he didn’t seem to be upset about it!
His TikTok girl sang him Happy Birthday later. He seemed delighted. I was less so.
Around 10 pm I went downstairs with my garbage from the room. I did the garbage up in the kitchen and bathroom and put it in the genkan for F in the morning. I hope he takes it out as I’m not going to do it.
I took a shower and then came back upstairs. F changed his mind about taking a shower and basically went to bed. He had his phone or computer blaring away for a while. I watched a show from the Fire Stick and then turned everything off.
And that’s about it for my day. I had hoped that F would have a good day. It might have been good from his perspective, but from mine it was crappy. I have one more day alone tomorrow to do my laundry and cook dinner, after that, F is off again on Friday.
That’s it for me. Come back later if you like and hear all about my day. Until tomorrow.

Can you guys not get an upgrade to your internet service? If his streaming video on a phone makes things so slow that you can't post to your blog, that's a desperately small pipeline as posting to your blog takes almost no bandwidth. I know you guys are relatively rural so your options are limited, but Japan is pretty good with its infrastructure these days.
I'm sure we can. I have asked him several times to contact the internet company but.....he's busy. Or something. I think the real problem is our internet connection point is downstairs and we are upstairs. I never get a lot of internet in my part of the room anyway, and when he's watching YouTube it really interferes.
It did eventually go through,so that was good!
Ah, it sounds like you guys need a mesh network to give you another point with better signal, but I'm sure that is another kettle of fish that might be hard to get F to help you out with as it will cost something and require hardware set-up.
Hmm...I hadn't heard of that before, but I Googled it. It does sound like something we could use. We did try an extender...well, we bought one, but argued about where to set it up and then it mysteriously got broken...
I am kicking myself. When they did the install at the house the guy asked if I wanted it upstairs but F wasn't around and I didn't know that I should just say yes! Live and learn. I have asked him to call the company...I'll have to keep badgering him to do it.
Thanks for the suggestion!
